I struggled to write this email last week. So much so that it never got written. For that, I apologize. I know nobody wants to hear another word about rising prices, and trust me, I don't want to write about it. I value consistency over the long haul. I choose to earn your trust and your business by offering an excellent product at a fair price, week in and week out. In fact, many of our prices (milk, butter, cheese, etc...) have remained exactly the same for the last 4-5 years. However and unfortunately, our hand is being forced. Prices on virtually all of our input costs have risen significantly over the past few months. Seed, Feed, Fertilizer, Fuel, and Labor are the places we have seen significant double-digit % increases in cost.
Anyway... you know the story. You will notice some price increases. I have tried to keep the increases as modest as possible. Milk, Cheese, and Butter each went up a little. We adjust egg prices based on seasonal supply, so there was no change there. I kind of feel the desire to apologize for raising prices, even though in my head I know that macroeconomic inflationary pressure is the culprit. I feel like we are starting to see a leveling off of input cost (fingers crossed), which should have a stabilizing effect. I'm going to apologize anyway. I'm sorry we are having to raise prices. Always know that we are proud to produce and assimilate the best locally grown food available for you and your family. We will always respect the knowledge and sophistication of our customers, yall probably understand inflation and macroeconomics better than I do. This week I just felt the desire to explain what's going on with costs and pricing. Hopefully next week I'll be back to writing about chickens, cows, and crops.
