Strawberry Season

It's the season when the walk-in cooler smells the absolute best. As Strawberry season bursts onto the scene here in North Georgia, we have a bumper crop coming in this week from our apple-growing friends at Beech Creek Orchards (they do more than just grow great apples). They are just a little south of us, so their Strawberries are usually our first available out of the field. I also received word from our blueberry growing friends at Sweet Velo Blue. Even though they had a few scares with some cold weather a few weeks ago, all except the very early blooming varieties look like they will have a good crop this year. To round out this fruitful forecast, Brian also tells me that the peaches and apples are looking good. This is an exciting time of year for those of us that like to eat local. There is so much delicious and nutritious food just around the corner to break the monotony of the winter diet. I am so looking forward to this growing season. It starts now.
