Spring Tour Season

Most folks know that we open the farm up in the fall and have fun fall activities for families and schools. The lesser-known farm tour season is a hidden gem. In the spring we host school tours that are very different from the fall. Spring tours focus on our livestock. Students learn about our dairy cows and get to witness the entire process first-hand. A couple of brave teachers even get a chance to try their hand at milking the old-fashioned way. I recently sat in on a milking demo and Brad does a great job explaining the preparation and the milking process. He engages with the audience and ensures everyone leaves understanding not only where our milk comes from, but also the importance of the human-animal connection. In addition to the milking demo, visitors also get a first-hand look at how our chicken eggs go from the chicken's nest to the carton. Last but not least, visitors are able to spend time in the animal barn where the new babies of springtime live. Usually, visitors can see a baby calf drink a 1/2 gallon bottle of fresh milk, and spend time playing with baby lambs, chicks, and goats. Due to the amount of other work we need to get done on the farm, we are not able to offer this tour on the weekends, but we try to work in interested families and homeschool groups on days that the school traffic is lighter. If you have a family or homeschool group interested in scheduling a tour, please contact Brad at 770-546-5179
