Fruitless 2021 (locally)

2021 is proving to have its own challenges. One of those showed up recently for two of the local farmers I work with. We usually get blueberries each year from Sweet Velo Blue, and we always get lots of peaches and apples from Brian Heatherington at Beech Creek Orchards. Both are small local farms that are a joy to work with. Unfortunately, the late freezes that we had in this part of the state decimated the summer fruits. Right now it looks like there will be no fruit available from these specific farms. I'll do some reaching out to other folks I know to try to have some fruits available for you. Meanwhile, keep these farmers in mind, especially Brian, as his apple and peach crop usually makes up the majority of his income. I have already let him know that we will be there to support him if he has any other produce to sell and that we will be ready to buy peaches and apples next year. Farming is definitely not for the faint at heart. My dad summed it up well when someone once asked him "Do you gamble?" He quickly and simply replied "For a living."
