Fall Seeding, part 2

Similar to last week we are still seeding cool season annuals. Except this time is a little different. We are planting a mixture of legumes this fall on corn ground that will be planted in the spring. This requires tillage, hence the picture of our big tillage tractor in the shop getting prepared for the field. Three different legumes, clover, peas, and vetch will capture nitrogen from the atmosphere and store it underground within their root system. In the Spring, we will plant corn into this mixture. The vegetative growth of the legumes will serve as a weed block while the corn gets growing, and the nitrogen now in the soil will feed the corn for its life-cycle. It all just works together so nicely if you let it...
