Corn Harvest

Well that went rather quickly. We harvested our entire corn crop this weekend...and that's not necessarily a good thing. For one, we did not get to rent some of the land that we had previously been raising Non-GMO corn on. We brought a few more acres into production and thought with an average yield that we would still produce enough corn for our animals this year. For the past few years we have produced 125 bushels of corn per acre. That number is pretty good for non-irrigated ground. This year we were able to fly through the harvest because the yield was down to about 70 bushels per acre. Yes, just a little over half of our average. Corn plants do not like temps over 90, and they definitely do not like to have dry roots. Unfortunately, this year they had lots of both.
