Strawberry Survival
I didn't really know what to expect when I started to remove the protective row cover from the strawberries last week. We had a low temperature of 10 degrees, so I was pretty sure we would see some foliage damage and possibly even some crown damage. However, I am glad to report that the plants look surprisingly good overall. There was a little foliage damage in spots, but it was relatively minimal. Crown damage was basically non-existent as far as I could tell. The protective covers we invested in have done a great job of keeping these plants comfortable through the cold weather. It'll be picking season soon, and I can't wait to open this patch up for you-pick as well as to pick some and make them available online. This has been such an exciting new venture for our family. It is fun to learn something completely new every so often. The ultimate conclusion will be when we get to share a sweet and juicy fresh strawberry with you all.
