The Babysitter

Snapping pictures around the farm is something I try to do regularly. Mainly because I want to share this journey and the natural agrarian beauty of the farm with you. However, more times than not I get busy and engaged in the task at hand. When that happens I sometimes miss those pic-worthy moments. But then there are those scenes that you catch and immediately reach for the trusty phone. This was one of those moments. I had just pulled two of our pasture chicken houses (like the one in the background) up to new grass. Every time I do that the cows come over to inspect and make sure I'm doing it right. Well, all the cows except this one. All these babies have been born in the last 10 days and she wasn't about to leave them alone and vulnerable by themselves. This moment not only caught my eye, but it spoke to me. She decided to resist her instinct to go with the herd and inspect something interesting because her duty was to take care of these babies. Honestly, this picture reminds me of the mommas in my life. They make sacrifices daily in the name of motherhood. I know this post is a few weeks late for Mother's Day, but when the moment speaks, you have to listen. Thank you to all the mommas out there. And thank you number 86 for reminding me of the sacrifices you all make.
