Blueberry Time

If you read in this space often, you know how I relish the relationships we have built over the years. Farmers are typically "keep to ourself kind of folks", me included. I can work all day tending to the chores ahead of me without a single human conversation and be totally content. I think a lot of farmers are that way. The lifestyle of the farmer and this personality trait makes it hard for farmers to meet other farmers. We'll get to know the farmers down the road in each direction, primarily because one will need to borrow something from the other occasionally, but the reach isn't much further than that.
In an effort to provide as many locally grown goodies to our customers as possible, I have made it a habit to get out of my comfort zone and reach out to other farmers that are doing great work. As a result, each week we bring you all of the Meat, Milk, and Eggs that we can provide, while also offering equally amazing products from some of this region's finest farmers in their own fields. This week we are pleased to welcome back the Blueberries from Sweet Velo Blue in Ranger. I have been working with David and Cheryl for over 6 years. They are dedicated to producing absolutely fantastic blueberries. Their farm is beautiful and kept as meticulously as they manage their blueberries. Each year Cheryl reaches out a couple of months before harvest time to let me know how the crop is looking. A few weeks later we talk about an estimated first harvest, and eventually, this date arrives. Today we will be eating the best blueberries our region has to offer, and you can too. All thanks to a mutually respectful relationship that has blossomed over the last 6 years.
