This girl has loved animals her whole life. Specifically chickens, but really all animals. I can't tell you how many pictures I have of her hugging a chicken. We are about to embark on a chicken house remodel project that will be designed specifically to allow the kids to do more of the chores. Not because we want to abuse child labor, but because it's my job to foster an affection for this lifestyle. We, as parents, are also charged with molding their character and developing their work ethic. I believe assigning responsibility is the best way to check all of those boxes. The feeling of a job well done resonates in your soul, no matter your age. And when things do not go as planned, learning to adapt, problem-solve, and overcome may be the most important lesson of all. I think I'm gonna enjoy this era where they are starting to work beside me instead of behind me.
Bonus lesson: They can put up to the amount of their annual income ($6500 max) into a ROTH IRA and watch it grow TAX-FREE for the next 50 years or so.
