On the farm, we are really feeling these ole' dog days of summer. Bugs are eating crops, cows don't want to give milk, chickens are slowing down their egg laying, and even the vegetables don't want to produce. To top it all off, wasps and yellow jackets are stinging us every time we turn around. That's pretty much how it goes this time of year. We've come to expect it, but we don't have to like it. Often folks will ask what my favorite season is. Since they all have their pros and cons, my default answer is "The next one". Each season brings its own beauty and its own challenges. Usually, by the time we are past halfway, I'm ready for the next. This year is definitely no exception. Fall is around the corner, and I personally couldn't be happier about it. Close your eyes with me and think about a crisp cool morning, brilliant leaves, corn mazes, pumpkins, and college football. Yep, that's my favorite... for now. Ok, let's open our eyes and get back to work. We still have a few more dog days left to endure before fall shows up.
