They Are Growing Up So Fast, part 2
This is a different spin on the same title as last week. Last week, I talked about the Turkeys growing up fast. But would you look at the young man working in this picture? Yes, I should have gotten him to look up and smile for the picture, but he was diligently about his business. He helped me get the last of the turkeys out to pasture a few days ago. He is a big strong kid with a giant heart. That makes him super easy to love. He emptied these crates of turkeys like a gentle giant, carefully but diligently taking each bird out and putting them in the grass. When he finished one particular crate, he said, "That's the fastest one I've ever done" without even looking up. And then moved right on to the next crate. It was close to 100 degrees, but no complaining from him. He usually wants to be with me no matter what, and that's a responsibility that I acknowledge and embrace. Being able to work side by side with these kids is one of the great joys of my life. Every opportunity to do so is such a gift.
Turkey report: So far this has been one of the best flocks. There is still a long way to go, but we came out of the brooder with only a 2.2% mortality, for turkeys, that is fantastic. They are currently thriving on pasture. Let's hope the luck continues with this great flock of birds.
