This week on the farm, we celebrated this girl's 12th birthday. Happy Birthday, Jersey. The day she was born, I was en route to the Alpharetta/Roswell delivery location at Fish Family Chiropractic. Just as I was about to cross Sandy Plains Rd in the big refrigerated box truck, Julie called. Her water had broken at work. She finished helping the customer she was serving before calling me. Her mom picked her up and drove her to the hospital. I called my dad, and he came to finish the route. I took his truck and headed to the hospital. That was our first lesson in "it takes a village". Our family surrounded us that evening as we welcomed this beautiful girl into the world. They have surrounded us and supported us ever since, as have many friends, customers, and customers that became friends. We didn't really know it at the time, but we knew nothing. That's why it takes a village. There is a collective institutional knowledge that is useful and helpful, but it's only helpful if we share it. The "newby" doesn't even know what to ask, so the burden is on those of us that have been there to reach out and help. I challenge you to be somebody's village.
